Rays Drop Opening Game of Homestand to Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies (20-15) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (16-19) 8-4 on Tuesday night at Steinbrenner Field.

The Phillies broke through with three runs in the second, thanks in part to a two-run homer from Alec Bohm. Yandy Diaz hit a two-run homer in the fourth to pull within 3-2, which would be the score going into the eighth inning. In the eighth the Phillies broke through with four runs - Nick Castellanos hit a three-run homer that helped key the inning.

Drew Rasmussen (1-3, 3.09) got the start and allowed three earned runs on five hits in four and one-third innings of work. Zack Wheeler (3-1, 3.35) got the start for the Phillies and allowed just two earned runs on four hits in seven innings of work while striking out nine and walking none.

The Rays will try and bounce back and even the series when they meet in the second game of the three-game series on Wednesday night. Cristopher Sanchez (3-1, 3.45) is scheduled to start Wednesday for Philadelphia, and face Shane Baz (3-1, 3.86) for the Rays.
