Governor Ron DeSantis says more schools around the state are pledging to go an extra mile to support military families. 176 schools were added this year to the list of "Purple Star Schools of Distinction."

"This is only given to schools that strive to offer extensive support for military families."

Among the things these schools must do is set up a student-led transition program to assist military students coming into the school and have a military point of contact to serve as a liason for military families.

DeSantis, at an elementary school in Panama City this morning, says nearly 400 schools now meet the "Purple Star" designation and every school in Bay County is on the list.

Other school districts around the state with at least 75 percent of "Purple Star" schools include Brevard, Citrus, Okaloosa and Santa Rosa.
